Sheila here...

It's been a couple of day since either of us last posted. We've had a guest (Erika) come and stay with us for a few days until her dorm opens up on Saturday. She's from Indiana and it has been quite enjoyable so far getting her used to the subtle and not so subtle differences about Miami and it's overwhelmingly Latin culture. So far she has one word, sí. "Yes" and "no" are good starts, I would say. Since we had an incident with pepper, or rather too much pepper, in spinach dip on Friday, I think yes and no will help make ordered food more palpable :).

Speaking of Friday, it was Mimi's big birthday! I'll let you guess how old she is now, though I must say I know she doesn't look a day over 25. I told her she is "aging" gracefully. I swear I'll be carded for the next 10 years. Here at work, our male volunteers (grownups) are constantly regarding me like I am a high school intern. At first it annoyed me greatly. I was quick to tell someone that I was a married woman and therefore not too hot on hearing, "come here little girl." But I cooled my heels, learned to smile sweetly, and address them in such a way as they would not confuse me for a teeny bopper again. In any case, I can only hope to look like my parents when I hit 50. Ok back to the birthday! We went to the Hard Rock Casino and Village (pictured at right). We went to a restaurant called Jazziz. The featured performer was Ms. Nicole Henry and boy could that woman sing. She was full of energy, pizzazz, and flavor. She kept the audience laughing in between classics like, "Georgia on My Mind", "Get Here If You Can". The food was pretty good, though as I mentioned earlier, there was an issue with the spicyness of some spinach dip that Erika ordered. I teased her and told her that down her she'd be apt to order pepperjack sauce, hold the pepper. Funny thing is that I find most Cuban food (the majority of food) bland. My family spices up everything! Even our popcorn that we munch on late at night is laced with lots of cayenne. Erika wasn't pelased with her food one bit. But the whole ambience of the place was really nice. After watching a water display similar to the one at the Bellagio (though definitely not on that scale), we went to party. The club had an interesting decor, but the DJ was no Kid Capri. He'd play old skool classics that would have people jammin' and then throw on Mariah Carey. After an hour Erika and I left. We were dead tired, though ERika moreso. Who in their right mind sits on a bus for 30 hours....tsk tsk tsk. I am still clowning her about that.

So I have 3 days left at my job. I am so looking forward to school I could jsut scream. However, I am alittle nervous too. I feel my ambitious nature bubbling to the surface, as if it ever really left, and I am already thinking of projects to blow my teachers' minds. Hehe, I'm being honest. I am always keeping a new project in mind. In fact, I am already thinking of a redesign of this site. Nick reminded me that I have sites to complete that actually generate income, so let me not get ahead of myself. In any case, let me wrap up my work stuff. Tata!
