Hi all! We wanted to give a little history about us. First, short biographies:

Sheila
I was raised as an only child in Brooklyn, NY to Panamanian parents. Growing up I was very active in African dance and music. I play a variety of instruments - the piano, the flute, and my favorite, the steelpan. I play the Tenor and Double Tenor steeldrums with the 21st Century Steel Orchestra.

I am presently in a Masters program at the Florida International University for Landscape Architecture. I am scheduled to be complete in May 2008, so I have a LOOOOONG way to go. I have been through one semester and I am so happy to have made a career change from web design to architecture. I use my technical skills with my creativity to create and manipulate space. I am looking forward to learning more and frankly, becoming the best. This is Sheila you are reading about, after all :).

I am a member of the first and finest sorority for Black women - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter. I take great pride in the service the sorority provides to the Greater Miami community and I treasure our bonds of sisterhood.

I'm sort of odd, but lovable, and sometimes exacting to a fault. But I'm a pretty nice girl.

Nicholas
I grew up in Vermont and in Washington, DC with my younger sister Ariana. I grew up enjoying exploring nature and appreciating living creatures. I enjoy playing soccer and skiing.

I like to cook, take care of my garden, and hang out with my friends. Being pretty laid-back, I took to Buddhism easily, enjoying the practice of being in the NOW.

I am in the last stages of massage school at Educating Hands SChool of Massage. I like to work ache and pains out of my clients. As I make people feel better, my emotions too are lifted. I am certified in Hot and cold stone massage and I practice on Sheila whenever we get the chance.

I am sweet, charming, a great conversationalist, a dreamer, caring, and generous with his heart.

Some of our adventures
Nicholas and Sheila met back in 2000 at the Professional Bartending School in Alexandria, VA. Nicholas had missed a session in his own class and opted to sit in on Sheila's last class before the big exam. They spoke very little, but there was lots of flirting with the eyes. Imagine this, Sheila was a little shy! They exchanged phone numbers and days later went out on a date. The big exam day came and Nicholas made 12 drinks in 6 minutes and 14 seconds. Sheila passed the exam in 6 minutes and 41 seconds. Obviously they were MADE for each other :). Sheila was immediatly taken with this laid-back fellow. Her hyper personality was softened by his easy going nature and she loved his ever-present infectious smile. Nicholas admired Sheila's energy and convictions (and boy does she have a LIST of them).

After Sheila graduated from Howard University in 2001, they moved amidst much fuss to Miami, FL. Talk about culture shock. For one, they didn't have a car and Sheila worked across town. After 4 months using the bus, Nicholas' dad gave them his Volvo. They were elated and so very thankful. However, the car was a stick shift, which Sheila, with her limited driving experience, couldn't seem to master. Therefore, Nicholas shuttled her back and forth for months UNTIL he went on vacation to visit his mother in the summer of 2002. Forced to drive herself around, Sheila learned the manual amidst lots of stalling and colorful language. From them on she because a driving machine. She drives EVERYWHERE! This was just one of their many mini adventures.

Nicholas attended Florida International University for 1 year before he and Sheila decided to focus solely on their web design company - Savatar Media. For a year and a half, Nicholas solicited business and Sheila created websites from the comfort of home. Self-employment meant risk, long hours, but also afforded the flexibility to go on adventures! In June of 2003, Nicholas and Sheila drove a moving truck from Pompano Beach, Florida to Bristol, VT. Of course their parents were a little nervous, but they were jsut fine. In true Nicholas and Sheila adventure fashion, they managed to have a caffeine-induced mad dash to/through Savannah (pep pep pep pills are VERY bad), a very close call between two tractor trailers on the Jersey turnpike in the rain, a speedy drive through New York that led to a speeding ticket from the oddest looking cop, a bleak drive through Vermont in the middle of the night (that's true BLACKNESS), a chance to flip an overturned sheep back on his back, and a leap off of a cliff into the most frigid "summertime" water.

Later on that year they went to Panama for "El Centenario", the celebration of 100 years of independence from Columbia. Nicholas took the opportunity to walk around the small city of Colón daily. For two weeks Nicholas made friends with perfect strangers, and became quite known. Sheila reconnected with family she hadn't seen in 15 years. Together, they "discovered" the Panama Canal (it wasn't the canal one bit...just a bit of water), visited the REAL Panama Canal, travelled to see old forts, the Black Jesus in Portobello, the gorgeous beach at Playa Langosta, the altar of gold in Panama City, Panama Viejo, as well as a solo trip to Panama City where we went shopping (can we say shirts for a quarter!). Nicholas and sheila enjoyed themselves so much that they are determined to live a good portion of their lives in this sunny and wonderfully blessed country. It was a beautiful experience!

Since then they've had a myriad of adventures, not the least of which was GETTING MARRIED. Surely they'll be living life to the fullest for years to come!
